On its own it’s a 10.4 lb, 286 Wh LiFePO4 unit with 600 W of output, a UPS under 10 ms, near-silent operation and a one-hour wall recharge. Its real trick is expansion: stack an extra battery underneath and it grows to 572 Wh or 858 Wh. It’s ideal for camping, home-office backup and CPAP users who want to start small. It is not a refrigerator backup unless you expand it.

How the expansion works
Most small power stations are fixed forever. The RIVER 3 Plus is different: EcoFlow sells two extra batteries that stack with it using a wire-free connection.

Three real-world scenarios
1. A silent UPS for your home office
Leave it plugged into the wall with your router, modem and laptop plugged into it. If the power drops, it switches over in under 10 ms, so your video call doesn’t drop, and it keeps Wi-Fi running for about 10 hours on its own.
2. A weekend of tent camping
Phones, headlamps, a camera and a speaker use well under 150 Wh per day, so the RIVER 3 Plus covers a full weekend. A single 100–200 W solar panel keeps it topped up for longer trips.
3. Starting a CPAP backup on a budget

Frequently asked questions
Can the RIVER 3 Plus run a refrigerator?
Not reliably on its own: 286 Wh would last only a few hours, and a full-size fridge’s startup surge can exceed what a 600 W inverter handles comfortably. A mini fridge or 12 V cooler is a better match. With the EB600, it covers an average fridge for about 10 hours, if the fridge starts reliably on it.
Can I take it on a plane?
No. U.S. airline rules don’t allow passengers to carry lithium batteries larger than 160 Wh, and the RIVER 3 Plus is 286 Wh. Check with your airline for current rules.
Can I use it while it’s charging?
Yes. That’s how the UPS works: it passes wall power through to your devices and switches to battery in under 10 ms if the grid fails.
Does adding a battery increase the output?
No. Extra batteries add capacity (runtime), but the output stays at 600 W. For more output, you need a larger unit such as the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus.
The bottom line
The RIVER 3 Plus is the small power station you’re least likely to outgrow: light, quiet, fast to charge, with a fast UPS and room to expand to 858 Wh. If you need to back up a full-size refrigerator from day one, start with a 1 kWh model instead.
