In short: every number on Tested Watts comes from an official source or a formula we show, we say plainly what we haven’t tested, and money never decides a verdict. This page explains the rules we follow for every article. For the details of our runtime math, see How We Research.
Our goal
We want each article to be the most useful page on its topic: after reading it, you should know whether a power station can run your devices, for how long, and which size fits your situation, without opening another tab.
Who is responsible
Tested Watts is run by Alejandro Rodríguez, MD, a physician (MD, Colombia) who works in rural primary and emergency care. He is not licensed to practice medicine in the United States. Articles are published under his name and editorial responsibility, and every article that touches on health is reviewed and approved by him before it goes live.
Sourcing standards
- Official first. Product specifications come from the manufacturer’s official product page, user manual or datasheet, checked when we write or update the article.
- Named when independent. If an official source doesn’t list a figure, we cite an independent source by name. If we can’t confirm a figure, we leave it out or ask you to check the current listing.
- Public agencies for safety and data. Health and safety guidance comes from agencies such as the CDC, FDA and FoodSafety.gov; energy and outage data from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Energy Information Administration.
- Always linked. Every article ends with a “Sources” section that links what we used.
Calculations
Runtimes, sizes and charging times are estimates. We use the same assumptions across the site, show the formula in each article and work through at least one example step by step, so you can check the math or replace our numbers with yours. We re-check every calculation before publishing.
What we never do
- Claim tests we didn’t run. We haven’t tested power stations hands-on yet, and our reviews say so near the top. If we start testing, tested results will be labeled clearly.
- Invent reviews, quotes or scores. We don’t publish made-up user opinions, star ratings or numeric scores. Our verdicts compare specifications.
- Quote prices in articles. Prices change daily, so we ask you to compare the current price. Deal alerts and event deal pages may show a price with the date, time and source.
- Use manufacturer photos without permission. Our images are generic illustrations, our own charts or photos we’re allowed to use.
Health content
Articles about CPAP, carbon monoxide, heat, cold, medicines or food safety cite official health sources, are approved by Dr. Rodríguez before publication and carry this note: “This article is general information, not medical advice.” Physician notes are labeled “A note from a physician.” They are general guidance, not advice for your personal situation; talk to your own doctor and your equipment’s manufacturer.
Independence and affiliate links
We may earn a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide which products we recommend or what we say about them, and brands don’t review our articles before they’re published. Updates
Models, firmware and specifications change. We re-check key figures when a manufacturer updates a model or a reader reports a change. The last-updated date on an article changes only when we make a real update to its content. When we find a mistake, we follow our Corrections Policy.
